and the Jazz Studies Program at Sacramento State University in cooperation with Traditional Jazz Educators Network (TJEN)

REGISTRATION:

The $150 registration fee for the TJYBF includes:

  • All-events festival access for directors and individual band members.
  • Complimentary Pizza lunch for band directors.
  • Adjudicated performances. (Piano, bass/guitar amps and drums/cymbals provided.)
  • Feedback clinic based on performance. (Piano, amps and drums provided.)
  • Complimentary admission and pizza lunch for band directors and students to the noontime Jazz ‘n’ Pizza mentored jam.
  • Friday evening, clinician-led jam session.
  • Scholarship/ Award Presentations and Command Performances.
  • Evening Showcase featuring 2018 Guest Artist Russ Phillips on trombone, and the all-star Clinicians Band.
  • Complimentary admission for each band director, band student, and one parent to the next-day STJS “Jazz Sunday” at the Riverside Elks Lodge, with the all-star Clinicians Band: Bob Draga (cl), Joe Midiri (cl/sax) , Paul Midiri (vbs/tbn), Bill Dendle (bn/gtr), Jason Wanner (p), Katie Cavera (b), Ron Jones (dr).
  • Group band photos available for purchase.
  • Instrument Check.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • All band members younger than 22
    (or enrolled in a minimum of 6 college credits).
  • The band performs in one or more of the styles described in the “Style Guide” (on the Traditional Jazz Educators Network Web site).
  • <9 musicians perform at a time (in order to weave meaningful, improvised, ensemble counterpoint).

NON-COMPETITIVE FESTIVAL:

The four divisions include: middle school, high school, college, and jazz club/private bands. Over $4,500 in festival merit awards and scholarships awarded.

BAND REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Dec. 15, 2017

FESTIVAL and CONCERT TICKETS:

$10 in advance / $12 at the door for all events and evening concert.
